Odisha Police edged out Government Sports Hostel 5-4, via tie-breaker in the all-Cuttack final to emerge champions in the 14th Tata Utkalika Cup Floodlit Football Tournament at Unit-VI High School ground here tonight. Prasant Behera, SS Pruseth, Gautam Das, Govind Senapati and Prakash Dila bagged the individual awards as man of the final match, the man of the tournament, best goalkeeper, best defender and best forward of the tournament respectively.
The champion team bagged the trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 20,000, while the runner-up team became richer by Rs 15,000. MLAs Bhagirathi Badajena, Bijay Kumar Mohanty, Jaya Narayan Mishra, former minister Padmanav Behera, host Unit-VI Athletic Association president Tapan Mohanty and secretary Dilip Das were present in the closing ceremony.
Earlier in the semifinals, Police defeated East Coast Railway 7-6, via tie-breaker and Sports Hostel upset Tata Football Academy (Jamshedpur) 2-0.
